Studied at Brunswick Technical University, graduating with a degree in chemistry. Focus of studies: physical chemistry.

1962 Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.). 1962 to 1967 scientific assistant for physical chemistry at Brunswick Technical College.

Worked as a chemist in research, development and production, as well as patent assessor in the patents department of the German subsidiary of an international chemical corporation.

Fields of expertise: photosensitive mixtures of silver halides and photopolymerisable materials, and in coating processes and equipment.
